Djakarta I Geneve - Le Directeur general de I'Organisation mondiale de la Sante (OMS), le Dr LEE Jong-wook, est arrive a Djakarta pour une visite de cinq jours en lndonesie et au Sri Lanka. II participera a cette occasion au sommet de I'ANASE sur les consequences du tsunami, jeudi a Djakarta. Mercredi, le Dr Lee se rendra avec la Directrice generale de I'UNICEF, Mme Carol Bellamy, dans certaines des zones les plus durement eprouvees autour de Banda Aceh, dans le nord de Sumatra, afin de rencontrer certaines des victimes du tsunami et d'evaluer les besoins sanitaires les plus urgents. II rencontrera egalement M. Louis Michel, Commissaire europeen au Developpement et a I'Aide humanitaire, et ils voyageront ensemble. Apres avoir quitte I'lndonesie jeudi en fin de journee, le Dr Lee ira au Sri Lanka pour examiner les progres de I'aide d'urgence et developper davantage I'assistance proposee a ce pays et aux communautes les plus eprouvees. Depuis le debut de la catastrophe, I'OMS travaille avec le groupe central des pays contribuant a I'aide humanitaire. Elle a mobilise des equipes d'experts pour travailler dans les pays afin d'evaluer les besoins les plus urgents en matiere de sante et veiller a les satisfaire le plus rapidement. possible.
