Dear Mr. Beales : Prior to our meeting with you and the FTC staff on Friday, August 2, 2002, we wished to bring to your attention two additional items which we believe are relevant to your consideration of USSTC's request for an advisory opinion. The items are attached and are discussed below : The first is a copy of an article and related commentaries that recently appeared in the journal Addiction, published by the Society for the Study of Addiction to Alcohol and Other Drugs. See Attachment A. In response to an article by P. Anderson, entitled Public-private partnerships to reduce tobacco dependence, Addiction, 97, 951-955 (2002), is a commentary by Dr. K.
