Excerpt
Excerpt: This paper is the second in a series of Research Methods and Metrics papers, prepared by Standard & Poor?s (S&P) School Evaluation Services. Subsequent Research Methods and Metrics papers will introduce new methods or ratios, and build on previous papers to present additional insight into the power of using education data to promote better-informed decisionmaking. This Research Methods and Metrics paper outlines S&P?s ?Risk-Adjusted Return? method, which is an extension of the Error Band method described in the first paper. The Error Band method can be used to identify the Risk-Adjusted Performance of schools or districts by analyzing their academic achievement in relationship to their proportional enrollment of economically disadvantaged students.
